Resident Meeting Update

Today's session was constructive. We were able to discuss any issues that we can work on for next year.

Some proposed ideas that we will try to implement:
  • Increase morning reports to 45 minutes. 30 minutes of presentation/discussion with 15 minutes of teaching point. Additionally, morning report presentations should not be restricted to call admission cases, they may include cases from the past.
  • Raffles and incentives to increase attendance. By increasing resident attendance then more staff will be willing to moderate the morning reports
  • Outpatient clinic:10 mins of teaching by attending physicians until patients are checked into their room.
  • MKSAP Mondays at noon run by residents
  • Friday noon conferences are difficult to attend, possibly switch to another day
  • Avoid noon conferences presented by residents that are on the wards and ICU. Have only residents on electives present noon conferences.

Retreat

We plan on having the retreat during rotation #3. Interns are required to attend, seniors encourage to attend and if they opt out, they are required to cover the wards and ICU.

Among San Diego and Catalina Island, it appears that Pismo Beach was the most popular. Staying at a large rented house with multiple rooms, BBQ on the beach, horseback riding, ATV riding were some of the activities you guys proposed.

Comment or e-mail us if you are interested in leading the planning of the retreat.

Schedule

The PGY2 and 3 schedules are completed. The intern deadline to submit vacation dates is Friday, April 25th. The link to submit your preference is here: http://goo.gl/buchSU. If you fail to submit by the deadline we will pick vacation dates that best suite the scheduling.

Once the PGY-1 scheduling is completed, the schedule will be reviewed by Dr. Ragland and sent out. If there are any issues or requests to change the schedule, please come to us with a proposed solution.

For those of you who did not attend the meeting, you are welcome to post in the comments with your suggestions.
